As with many of my projects, a lot of times I will stop, scrap what I am doing and change direction. This is what happened to the flutter flier I had this chassis which I was working on.
I made the wings and claws but I was not happy with the body.
So I pierced out a new shape in 1 mm brass.
So then I built the sides up and made the body hollow.
This gave me a better platform and shows my poor planning skills all in one photo.
I make the claws by threading 3 mm rod and then screwing it into the center claw.
Then I solder it.
Then I bend and carve them.
Until they look like this.
Tail assembly.
I pierced and acid etched these two scrolls but later I discarded them.
The acid etched divider between the ghoul in the front and the Demon Dart at the back.
Shitty photo, but anyway, that is how the demon dart started.
The various teeth I made. I settled on the right side one.
The black teeth are iron, the rest are silver.
Fitting the demon dart onto it's perch.
Cutting the dart's tail edges.
The tail is fitted into the back rod.
Now to paint the eyes.
I color the copper of the ghoul with a mixture containing ammonia to give it the green patina.
I decided on purple.
I paint the eye in reverse directly onto a glass cabochon.
I quite like the effect. Mean looking bastard
I started the legs with 3 mm brass plate.
Then I laminated that with 1 mm copper plate.
Then a 1 mm cover of silver plate.
Now I make some claws out of 3 mm brass plate.
Once the claws are carved I solder a silver wire temporarily to leg and claw.
The wire allows me to align the claws and leg perfectly before soldering.
Afterwards, I cut the wire away.
The claws on the perch.
The flutter flier nearly ready for polishing.
I made a brass and copper cover for the back of the flier.
Close up of the back plate and perch.
The Demon Dart poised and ready for action.
