Stolen Art No.9 The Gear Gun, repurposed from an old printer.

The Art piece was stolen from Shurgard Maastricht Noord whilst in their safe area.

A buddy gave me two old printers that were destined for the rubbish dump.
I took them to my workshop and took them apart.
This is the first of the many different things I made from the components.

It seemed a pity to destroy two what looked to me perfectly good machines, but hey what do I know about printers, except that the ink is freaking expensive.

This is the drive train for some unknowable purpose.
Printers are very complex things that I am much more suited to take apart, rather than knowing exactly how it works.  Anyway, this thing looked like a gun right from the start.

This is what it looked like when it was extracted from the body.

There is not much I can actually say from the build, except that I stuck various bent and beaten metal pieces on until by pressing the red button, all the gears turned.
It looked very cool, also because I made this loud gear whine grinding noise when it was 'fired'.

More wires.
At first I made two battery tubes, but eventually that was to weak so I made two more tubes so the voltage to the gear motor went to 6 volts.

Placeholder Picture

I soldered springs into the bottom of the tubes to hold the batteries in place.

The trigger button was from a cut off switch from some lawnmower, I think.
I thought it looked cool.

Placeholder Picture

Just added more wires to complicate matters.

Here is the unpolished version.  The barrel come from a light fixture that used to hang in a store called Garlicks, in Pretoria in the sixties. From one of their chandeliers.

Placeholder Picture

My work bench got kind of hectic at times.

Placeholder Picture

The silver wires carry current to power the gear motor.

Placeholder Picture

The electricity made a convoluted path to and from the red trigger button.

Placeholder Picture

There was a lot of wire stuff done.

The next imapes are just boutique shots.
